Next to block of flats situated at 32 Pogodna street, there is a small chapel. This chapel was moved almost 30 years ago - before that it was located more or less in the middle of the current street. Only a few people remember that the chapel was located on a mass grave which was unearthed on 15th of April, 1988, during construction works. It's safe to say that the whole Pogodna 32 block is located on the former mass grave.
The remains found in 1988 were exhumed and buried in New Jewish Cementary on Walecznych St in Lublin. But how come the mass grave was located on Pogodna Street?
In order to answer that, we must go back to April 16th, 1942, when Germans created a ghetto ("skeletal ghetto") located in a quarter betwwen current Pogodna, Krancowa, Rozdroże and Rudlickiego St. The gehtto was finally liquidated on November 9, 1942. Some victims were killed in Krepiecki Forest, some at Majdanek concentration camp, while the rest.. you know...
