I would like to show you a very historically important place. Here, in Kamienna Góra had placed one subunits of Nazi working camp of Gross-Rosen. May 1, 1941, the camp Gross-Rosen got the status of an independent concentration camp. Initially, work was carried out in the camp's huge stone quarry, owned by the SS-Deutsche Erd- und Steinwerke GmbH (SS German Earth and Stone Works). As the complex grew, many inmates were put to work in the construction of the subcamps facilities. At its peak activity in 1944, the Gross-Rosen complex had up to hundred subcamps located in eastern Germany and occupied Poland. In its final stage, the population of the Gross-Rosen camps accounted for 11% of the total inmates in Nazi concentration camps at that time. A total of 125,000 inmates of various nationalities passed through the complex during its existence, of whom an estimated 40,000 died on site and in evacuation transports. The camp was captured on February 14, 1945, by the Red Army.

AL(Arbeitslager – ger. working camp)Landeshut was created in July 1944. The camp was located in the south-western part of Landeshut (Kamienna Góra), between the railway line and the Bóbr river. It was the men's camp where mostly Poles were imprisoned, as well as smaller groups of citizens of the USSR, Czech Republic and Germany. Most of the prisoners worked in three plants of Fa. Kugelfischer, the production of ball bearings. In February 1945 prisoners were forced to dig anti-tank trenches and building fortifications around the city. There are no precise information about the number of prisoners killed in the subcamp Landeshut. Without doubt, mortality was very high. From the end of January 1945, dead prisoners bodies were transported to the main camp of Gross-Rosen and immediately cremated. Later, the dead were buried in the subcamp and near of work places. 14 February 1945. it was an unsuccessful attempt to evacuate to the east, about 1,500 prisoners of the camp. At the time of capturing the camp on May 9, 1945 it may be present between 1300 and 1600 prisoners. After the war ends, nearly 300 bodies of prisoners who died in the last three months of the camp has been exhumed and moved. In 1956, in the same place was created the prison which in 1981 had the biggest number of interned members of “NSZZ Solidarność” from the province of Jelenia Gora. From among 67 there were 4 people from Kamienna Góra and Lubawka. After 1989, the prison was irreversible closed.

Today only a few parts of former camp and prison remained (the walls and watchtowers) to make all remember about the cruelness of crimes made by human hand. Unfortunately there was no photos remains of this object. In one of parks in Kamienna Góra is standing a symbolic mausoleum in remembrance of murdered prisoners in the Gross Rosen concentration camp.
