The national road No. 2, due west from Lowicz crosses with the small river Słudwia.
There are two bridges. One is an entirely modern concrete - there rush thousand
vehicles a day on a busy road Warsaw-Poznan. The second one is steel and closed
for traffic. This closed one on the Słudwia river next to Maurzyce was the first welded
bridge in the world! It was built in 1927 according to the project of engineer Stefan Bryla.
The distance between the "wings" of the bridge is 27 meters. The new thing applied was
using welding instead of rivets for connecting elements. It was a huge facilitate in building
such constructions and moreover it reduced their weight. The bridge in Maurzyce weighs
about 55 tons. The design has been considered as monument class "0".
