Ols zdefiniować można jako bagienne lasy, zdominowane przez olszę czarną występującą na terenach za bagiennych. Zajmują siedliska średnio żyzne ,gdzie tworzą się gleby organiczne ,tzn. torfowe bądź mułowo-torfowe.
