‘The Unrecognized’
I believe every single Poznań dweller knows the distinctive statues from the Park Cytadela that have dominated in a way the art of that very place. Some think that they found an ideal spot, while others assume that they do not fit the Park’s landscape. Art is something to be judged in various ways but it’s all about the cache.
A short note for the ones interested in the topic:
‘The Unrecognized’ is the biggest outdoor project by Magdalena Abakanowicz. It consists of 112, more than two meters high, cast iron, anthropomorphic figures, that only seemingly constitute a chaotic group, surrounded by a lawn. The silhouettes do not have heads and they seem to move in different directions. According to a Poznań photographer Maciej Kulesza the figures presented by the author tell about the phenomenon of life, touch on the problem of dignity, courage, survival, they portray the human presence in the omnipotent political and technological space of the current world. They are a crowd out of a myth, emerge from the surrounding nature, trees, soil, and clouds. Every single one of them has a different ‘backbone’ trace inside of itself, moves in a different direction. Let’s move on, however, to the most interesting part of this description.
THE CACHE:
It’s hidden according to the coordinates, simple, easy and enjoyable, but please be aware of the people in sight for the place is highly visible. It would be a great shame to track with the watchful eyes of the strangers. I recommend to search at night or during a bad weather when there would be less strollers. Please take something to write and put the box aside gently so it remains unseen.
