Description
Just next to Warsaw administrative border, in Bemowo Forest there is a nature reserve Łosiowe Błota (Elk Swamps) – one of a few nature reserve located so close to a large city. As the name says – the biggest animal living in that area is an elk J You can meet them here quite often.
What should we do if we meet an elk during a walk ? First of all, don’t panic, elks are rather friendly and they would probably be more interested in eating their dinner rather than bothering about us J But, off course we shouldn’t also disturb them in their natural environment. You can try to make a photo from a distance, and then better go away quietly.
It is worth mentioning that Warsaw elks often leave their natural “residences” and walk, rather not intentionally further to the city. When eating plants, they move from one of them to another, sometimes not realising that they go step by step into the city. Then they suddenly “wake up” inside Warsaw park or a green area next to the highway. Many times elks were seen in the middle of a housing estate on Bemowo or Bielany, sometimes they even walk even further, for example they can walk along Vistula even to the centre. Later they or off course put asleep and driven back to their natural environment.
So, take a walk, grab the cache and watch out for the elks ! Off course, to minimise the risk of disturbing elks, the cache is located outside the nature reserve. In the past, it used to be another cache here, but at the other side of the nature reserve. There is also a cache registered on GC, but also in a different place.
