Osiedle Marii Konopnickiej zostało zaprojektowane przez inż. Janusza Linka. Pierwsze budynki powstały tutaj w 1974 roku. Osiedle ma 24,3 ha powierzchni. Od zachodu, południa i wschodu jest oddzielone od sąsiednich osiedli wąwozami.
Warto zauważyć, że przy ulicy Pana Balcera znajdują się dwa 'naj' całego LSM: najwyższy budynek, jak i największy blok mieszkalny (ze względu na liczbę mieszkań).
