Zabytkowe cmentarze są symbolem historii tej ziemi, świadectwem dawnych czasów, zmiennych losów regionu - wszak gospodarzami byli tu Piastowie, Niemcy, Sasi i Łużyczanie. W wielu wioskach możemy znnaleźć stare poniemieckie cmentarze, zniszczone po wojnie, dewastowane z wściekłości, rozpaczy czy chciwości, pozostałości cmentarzy żydowskich oraz wojskowe cmentarze polskie, niemieckie i radzieckie.
