Treasures of the Triangle: Church of Sts. Maurice– Faminka

Church of Sts. Maurice - first (probably wooden) Church of Sts. Maurice was constructed in the twelfth century close to the Walloon artisan district. Brick church consecrated in this place in 1268.

Church (especially its baroque tower of 1723) was damaged during the siege of Wroclaw in 1757. After 200 years Church suffered very serious damage (60%) during the “Festung Breslau” (ger. Fortress Breslau) siege by the Red Army. Burned church organ, clock tower and part of the equipment of the church (luckily survived the precious wooden altar from 1730, sides altars, church pulpit and baptismal font), melted historic bell from 1618, parsonage lay in ruins.

Interesting: In the 70's in the wall of the church were embedded finger’s bones of Aleksander Fredro (polish writer), whose statue is located in Wroclaw's Market Square and the manuscript of his book "Zemsta" is located in The Ossolineum or the National Ossoliński Institute in Wroclaw.
