Wroclaw's main railway station, built in 1856, was designed by Wilhelm Grapow, the Royal Constructor of Upper-Silesian Railway, in so-called Tudor neogothic style. The structure was extended in 1899-1904, when the present platforms and the main hall with ticket offices were built. At the time, it was the largest station in Prussia. Its architecture, reminding of an aristocratic palace, was meant to express the importance ad aspirations of the city.
