It 's September 1939, units of the Army "Lódz" under the command of general Wiktor Thommee are trying to break through to Warsaw. On 12-13 September in the region of Oltarzew and Ozarów fierce fighting continues and the Polish troops are retained by the XI and XVI Corps. The road to Warsaw is blocked, therefore the unit of the Army "Lódz" changes direction, and is heading north to Modlin.
In the spring of 1940, 996 soldiers killed during Oltarzew Battle are buried next to the Oltarzew park (crosses were initially birch), another 240 soldiers are buried on a cemetery in Pilaszków. During the occupation, despite the threat of oppression, cemetery in oltarzew patriotic decorations were prepared for All Souls' Day.
