Kościół powstał ze specjalnych funduszy cesarskich, po podarowaniu protestantom 122 kościołów na Śląsku w dobie reformacji. W kościele replika grobu Bożego. Po II Wojnie Światowej kościół pełnił rolę seminaryjnego.
