Ferry in Brzeg Dolny

The only place where you can get a car across ther Odra river between Wrocław and Lubiąż. Historic sources quote that a ferry had been running at the place in 1491.  The ferry runs every day each half an hour from 05.20h to 23.20h. Price is about 5 zł per car up to 3.5t, 2 zł per bike (but you can negotiate the latter). Every cruise, for many years now is beeing accompanied by the mongrel dog adopted by the ferry crew. It takes its business seriously, as if it somehow would miss the ferry, it will storm through the river, no matter the weather, all by itself.

 The cache is hidden by the small forest cluster close to the ferry. There was some settlement in the forest that is long gone by now - if you look around, you can find a hole surrounded by thick roots - a place where the well had been, I reckon.

 Cache contains: logbook, pencil (n.f.t.), two pendants (but no strings), some coins (including aluminium copy of XV-century Bohemian Grosch), a piece of green glass and a leaflet about the treasure of Środa Śląska.

Since the ferry has small throughput (6-8 cars or 12 t), and the closest bridges over the Odra river are placed some 30 km in each direction, the traffic on the surrounding roads is scarce. I encourage everybody to try to go looking for the cache by bike, since the vincinity is nice and the places on the route are overloaded with history - you can look at http://www.miekinia.pl/portal/04_miejscowosci.php.

Wilkszyn (judging from the ads - a capital of cesspit-construcion enterprises, also ever closed antique church);

Pisarzowice (nice roll downhill);

Brzezinka Średzka (go over the rail pass);

Gosławice (right over the rail pass, a corral with horses);

Prężyce (pompous palace "La Dame Blanche" style);

Lenartowice (Peasant Club - a must see!(perhaps not, it's a local urban joke...));

Księginice (second railway crossing, a village that never had a church nor school! :))

In the proposed form, a route is about 80 kilometers, 85% of which is a asphalt roads in good condition. Terrain is predominately flat. 3 hours to go for the bike fanatic, but for most of us, think - whole day. Or, you can think of taking the train to Brzeg Dolny with your bike. Or, start elsewhere. It's up to you.
