University of Marie Curie – Skłodowska
University was fouded on October 23, 1944 as a state university, firstly with a four departments: Medical, Natural, Agricultural and Veterinary Medicine. In a three months Pharmaceutical Department came into being, and a formal inauguration has place on January 14, 1945.
Academic cadre was comprised by 42 professors, inter alia from Wilno and Lwów Universities. In this time 806 listeners started studies. Organiser and first provost of the University was zoologist prof. Henry Raabe.

Today, University of Marie Curie – Skłodowska is running academic and research activity in ten departments, twenty-five institutes and five units on rights of institute.

Main Library of UMCS
Founding and development of Library are strictly related with University of Mari curie – Skłodowska history. Soon after its inception (October 23, 1944) library creating was began.
The profile of gathered bibliotheca was formed by University transformations. In first years there were gathered mainly mathematic, natural, medical, veterinary and philosophy publishers. When a new departments was founded: Law in 1949, Humanistic in 1952, Economy in 1965, Pedagogy and Psychology in 1973 and becoming self – dependent of the others (Medical, Pharmaceutical and Agricultural) the bibliotheca gathering policy has changed. Currently, repertory of the Library has universal character.
Main Library of UMCS along with 20 specialized libraries are creating library – informatical system on University. Its repertory are available for students and personnel own and other universities, as well as all the Lublin’s citizens, carrying out functions of academic public library.
From 1968 Library is located in edifice on Radziszewskiego Street, sharing its premises with University of Agriculture (currently named Natural University) libraries and up to 2005 with Lublins Technical University. With a beginning of 2000, part of Main Libraries branches was moved to the new flank. Complex of Main Library buildings is situated in a center of university campus, accounting for inherent feature of its landscape.
The box is hidden on the corner of Sowińskiego and Radziszewskiego Street. Near the Main Library (likewise the University School of Languages) parking.
