Politechnika Śląska 

publiczna wyższa uczelnia techniczna w Gliwicach. Według ogólnoświatowego rankingu szkół wyższych Webometrics Ranking of World Universities z lipca 2013 opracowanego przez hiszpański instytut Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas uczelnia zajmuje 7. miejsce w Polsce wśród uczelni technicznych, a na świecie 1083. pośród wszystkich typów uczelni. W edycji 2013 rankingu szkół wyższych Perspektyw Politechnika Śląska zajęła 5. miejsce wśród uczelni technicznych w Polsce oraz 18. miejsce spośród wszystkich uczelni akademickich w Polsce.

Politechnika Śląska składa się z 15 jednostek podstawowych (wydziałów i kolegiów), z których 11 zlokalizowanych jest w Gliwicach, 2 w Katowicach, 2 w Zabrzu oraz jednej jednostki pozawydziałowej, znajdującej się w Rybniku. Ponadto zajęcia dydaktyczne odbywają się również w Bytomiu, Dąbrowie Górniczej i Tychach.
