When we go by tram or car through railway viaduct at Dywizjonu 303 street we do not rather think how unusual object it is. But if we take a walk on the northern side of this viaduct, we will see that much of its structure is wooden. It is probably the only such thing in Warsaw.

An original viaduct was constructed together with the railway line, in 1951. The railway line that runs below is number 20 - a part of Warsaw railway bypass. You can meet here nearly only freight trains, the only exception is one passenger train a day, from Sochaczew to Warszawa Gdańska, that runs here around 7.45.

A tram line, that rides here, is also number 20. Today it is one of a few, but for a long time it used to be the only one. Previously there where no tramway line to Nowe Bemowo, the track led only to Boernerowo.

The viaduct itself was previously wooden and was supposed to be temporary. However, it functioned until 1996. Only one single tram track and a narrow passage was situated on the viaduct. There was no roadway. You can see some photos of old viaduct here:

The most funny thing on the photo is ‘no entry’ sign with an annotation saying: “In force during the crossing of a locomotive or train”. Actually, what the driver was supposed to do when the train arrived when the tram was already on the viaduct ? :)

In 1990s a reconstruction of the viaduct took place. A second tram track, a roadway and a passage on the second side were added. We can see a photo taken during reconstruction here:

The reconstruction was necessary because of planned extension of the tramway line to Nowe Bemowo (it was opened in 1997). But till today some fragments of wooden structure survived.

The cache is a magnetic one - so it is not attached to a wooden part off course :)

uwaga-stromy-stokAttention - you have to be careful to reach it, it can be a bit dangerous after rain or snow - then it can be quite slippery there !

uwaga-pociągIt is important not to run to the train track ! In order to reach the cache you do not need to cross the train track ! To get to the cache you have to walk from the western side (from Bemowo).

edit: August 2017: Currently no passenger trains ride here (however, in 2016 there were still 2 trains of Koleje Mazowieckie each direction, from Warszawa Gdańska to Sochaczew and Łowicz). Probably when the train line in the centre of Warsaw will be under reconstruction, some passenger trains will come back here.
